“that is true”
I love the saying, “that is true!” I smile every time I hear it and every time I smile I feel a sense of peace coming over me. I don’t feel a self-righteous desire to prove the person who made the statement false or a deep uprooting pressure to demand a soliloquy of why they have come to this forgone conclusion, as I believe I did at an earlier time in my life. I just kind of ponder the words and facts that preceded the statement and I become still. I ask you, is the statement, “that is true”, an absolute? If we are talking about mathematics, then presumably yes, but what about when we are talking about science? Is the science of strength and conditioning and the theories specialists have actualized absolute? Let’s consider this question? Is it true that using the foam roller as a prehabilitation warm-up and cool down tool will improve pre muscle stretch reflex & performance and aid in the recovery of muscle tissue and healthy blood flow to the muscles? I will be back tomorrow to write more about the saying - “that is true”
Here is what some trainers at Michael Boyle’s site www.strengthcoach.com had to say regarding this subject…

I too have looked and found no research. Anyone who has foam rolled before can probably just tell based on “feel” that the hamstrings are a tough group to get at. Get that thing on your lats, glutes, adductors, quads and it is a different story. Very useful for back work, t-spine, etc. Just because I can’t find the research doesn’t mean that I don’t believe in it. Real world application says makes me believe otherwise I guess. As far as manual therapy (massage) goes, I through out my back 4 summers ago training for my collegiate sport. I went to a chiropractor and got no where. I went to a good massage therapist in my area, went through a couple 1 hour sessions and felt unbelievable. I have no doubt in the effectiveness of tissue work.
So… What is true for you may be not true for someone else…stay open to everything - think outside the box!
